NEXT SHE'LL BE QUOTING EMERSON

our friendship
resides as
precious antiquity

a dusty trophy case
in southland park

with
all that exists
in an order
of natural hierarchy
we managed to link
together
for a moment
upon the chain of being

we found
ourselves
careless beasts
dedicated to
dependence
folded into
uncomplimentary
dysfunction

scala naturae
ens perfectissimum

professor
actor
student
ingenue
embroiled
in the latest
dramatic production

school of the
drowned-in-tears
and high gothic inclinations

we will always be looking
for the proper translation

take out your book
of etymology

seek me
love me
in the poetry

divine reciprocity
hung from purple ribbons
on an olive branch

we can exist here in words

without screaming

as it is impossible
to deny our nature
