THE DRIFT

evidently
you've
survived
another
night, as
relentless
dawn
hoists itself
above the
horizon
and you
hoist yourself
out of bed
but this is
not
a life-
affirming
vignette
despite
the sun's
swagger
even while
muzzled
behind
a humid
shroud
of sky
and yes
yes
the haze
will burn off
but only
to reveal
a
deep
blue
drift
not unlike
your
own
deep
blue
blues
that
neither
sleep
nor drink
nor this
poem
can cloud
over for
very long
